Wine of the Month Club

Wine of the Month Club

Ever wanted to learn about wines? I’m sure that if you’re reading this article, you already have a basic understanding about wines. The main thing is YOUR TASTE! Not the price, or the region, or the vintage, or the terroir. The most important thing about wines is your taste, and how YOU like them. At least that’s what every wine seller and vigneron has ever told me. That’s why this wine column is not about telling you what the most perfect wine is, but about what we’re drinking this month, and why. I encourage you to try, and try a lot, until you’ve developed your own taste, your own ideas on what you like and dislike, and believe me, you’ll like a few wines.

This month, we’ll start with 2 of our favorites:

Chateau La-Rode

2010 Château la Rode
Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux – Bordeaux, France, EU

The go-to wine for our editor, this wine is as smooth as silk, with no sweetness on the palate. A very well balanced wine due to the terroir and of its varied cepage (a blend of varietals) with merlot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon and malbec grapes, this wine is round with structured tannins, and an amazing finish. This is our favorite red!
70% Merlot – 20% Cabernet Franc – 5% Cabernet Sauvignon – 5% Malbec

2012 Reata Carneros Chardonnay

2012 Reata Vineyards
Carneros Chardonnay – Sonoma, California, USA

This is our of white month selection and it’s a spectacular rendition of Sonoma Chardonnay for the price. The cooler Carneros growing region keeps the grapes lively and well-balanced. Layered citrus and stone fruit flavors and a modicum of toasty oak lend a voluptuous mouthfeel to the Reata Chardonnay making it a perfect accompaniment to your Holiday dishes of seafood, chicken or pork. Compares favorably to many pricier examples of California Chardonnay; see if this doesn’t become one of your house favorites, it sure is one of ours.
